MiLB: Cincinnati Reds Set to Return Affiliation to Chattanooga Lookouts

CHATTANOOGA, TN. - The Cincinnati Reds and Chattanooga Lookouts announced on Tuesday, September 25th a two-year player development contract was signed for the 2019 and 2020 season. The announcement comes after officials from the Pensacola Blue Wahoos announced on September 11th that they would terminate their PDC with the Reds making the Reds available to other teams.

The Lookouts and Reds were together from 1988 to 2008 where the two combined to win one Southern League Championship in 1988. The players from the Reds will be able to build their careers in the same city as Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Justin Turner, Edwin Encarnacion, Drew Stubbs, Adam Dunn, and others beginning in 2019. Majority of the teams who have PDC deals in place come to an end following the 2020 season.

During the 11 years that the two weren't together that Lookouts were affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2009-2014) and Minnesota Twins (2015-2018). The Lookouts tallied two Southern League Championships in 2015 and 2017 during that time both with the Minnesota Twins. The Twins will either move to Pensacola, Florida or Amarillo, Texas in 2019, an announcement is expected within the coming weeks.

While the Lookouts were affiliated with the Dodgers and Twins during those 11 years, the Reds were affiliated with the Carolina Mud Cats (2009-2011) and Pensacola Blue Wahoos (2012-2018). The organization locked up one Southern League Championship in 2017 but have been in the playoffs four straight years.

The Cincinnati Reds affiliation hasn't changed as much since the 2008 season as the Reds Triple-A and Class A teams are the same (Louisville Bats and Dayton Dragons). The only affiliation that has changed is the Class A-Advanced with the Daytona Tortugas. The Daytona Tortugas and Billings Mustangs made the playoffs in 2018 but both lost.

The Chattanooga Lookouts season kicks off on April 4th at AT&T Stadium against the Montgomery Biscuits. (Koelle,2018).
