College Football: Mocs to Extend Contract With Finley Stadium

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced a contract extension with Finley Stadium Davenport Field today.  The new agreement was ratified at today's Stadium Corporation Board Meeting.

The new deal includes a three-year term, ending on June 30, 2021.  There is an option for a fourth year to keep Finley Stadium as the home site for UTC football and soccer contests.

"Finley Stadium is an outstanding venue for UTC football and soccer," stated Chancellor Steve Angle.  "The addition of a new video scoreboard has enhanced the quality of the fan experience.  We are delighted to continue the partnership with Hamilton County, the City of Chattanooga, and the community that led to the construction of Finley Stadium.

"We also appreciate the Stadium Corporation Board for working with us to reach an agreement that is in the best interest of both UTC and the Finley Stadium Board."

In the new agreement, UTC will pay an annual fee of $146,880, with a two percent increase each year.  Finley Stadium will continue to be responsible for normal security expenses during football and women's soccer games, utility and maintenance expenses, and staffing expenses.

As with the past contract, the Mocs retain 100% of ticket sales and share revenue for concessions and parking.  This includes UTC receiving 20% of gross revenues from general food & beverage concessions, 50% of net income from food truck concessions and 50% of net income from North Parking Lot revenues.  Finley Stadium retains all revenue from skybox rentals, along with the sale of food and beverages to skybox patrons.

"We are looking forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Finley Stadium," stated UTC Vice Chancellor & Director of Athletics Mark Wharton.  "This agreement fits the needs of our athletics program and I am excited about the future of our partnership with Finley Stadium."

The scope of the use outlined in the new contract gives the Mocs access to the Stadium, the First Tennessee Pavilion and parking for football games. UTC has access to the stadium for women's soccer games, practices by both programs and other UTC events.

The Mocs also have first priority for scheduling football and women's soccer games, provided they are scheduled by the deadlines specified in the agreement. All other UTC events do not have first priority if they conflict with a non-UTC event that is revenue-generating.

Finley Stadium opened in 1997 and is currently in its 21st season as the home of the Mocs football program.  UTC's soccer program has played at Finley Stadium for the past 11 seasons, but also played selected home games at Finley from 1997-2004. (UTC Athletics Release)

Supercross: Chad Reed Tallies First Podium Finish Since 2017

It wasn't a victory for Chad Reed in Detroit but it was a podium finish for the driver from Kurri Kurri, Australia. His first podium since Glendale in 2017 and the 132nd career podium finish. The finish is just another page in the story for Reed and 2019 has been one hell of a story so far. Reed has already earned more top 10 finishes this season then he did last season. The first top-five finish Reed earned this year already was more than he netted in 2018. Before San Diego, Reed had not finished inside the top five since Toronto in 2017. Will Christien denoted to Reed during the post-race interview that he had not been a fan of the new "Triple Crown" format but will take a third place finish. "Honestly just starts and finally riding to your ability," Reed told NBCSN. "It's been a long time. For the guy who has stood up here more than anyone in the sport, you know I take it on personally as just feeling less about myself for not getting up here and

MiLB: Mobile BayBears Look for Walk-Off in Final Season in Mobile

On Thursday (April 4th), the Mobile BayBears kick off their final season in Mobile, Alabama. The team will relocate to Madison, Alabama after this season and the BayBears are looking to finish in walk-off style. The BayBears have an opportunity in 2019 to tie the Montgomery Biscuits with four Southern League titles. The organization is currently fourth on the all-time SLCS victories. One last season at Hank Aaron Stadium, is this the year they walk-off with their fifth Southern League championship? In 2018, the Mobile BayBears were hiding in the bushes during the 2018 Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch but the organization was eliminated from playoff contention rather early in the campaign. The organization finished 66-70, fourth in the South Division. The BayBears were second in runs scored per game and runs batted in during the 2018 season but the rest of the batting statistics were pretty low. Things just didn't add up for the organization and in 2019 they
