MiLB: The Southern League Announce Postseason Awards and All-Stars

On the final off-day of the regular season, The Southern League announced the postseason awards and all-stars for the 2018 season.

The Biloxi Shuckers took a clean sweep of the postseason Southern League awards. The Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Pitcher, and Manager of the Year all three came from the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A affiliate. The Biloxi Shuckers, Chattanooga Lookouts, and Jackson Generals led the way with the most post-season All-Stars at three apiece.

Most Valuable Player - Corey Ray, OF, Biloxi Shuckers

Biloxi Shuckers center-fielder Corey Ray was awarded the Southern League's Most Valuable Player award after an amazing 2018 campaign. In 130 games this season, Ray has tallied 513 at-bats with 83 runs, 122 hits, 32 doubles, seven triples, 27 home runs, and 73 RBI's. Ray has a .238 batting average, .322 OBP, .485 slugging percentage.

Ray is also looking to become the first player in Southern League History (since 1964) to lead the league in both home runs (27) and stolen bases (35) at season's end. He was named to the South Division All-Star team in June and was named Southern League's Player of the Week on July 22nd and took player of the month honors in July.

Ray was the fifth overall pick in the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft from the University of Louisville. According to MLB Pipeline, he's listed as Milwaukee's No. 2 overall prospect. Ray has spent the entirety of 2018 with the Biloxi Shuckers after playing with the Carolina Mudcats in all of 2017. He split 2016 with the Brevard County Manatees and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

With the statistics in 2018 in Double-A, it'll be exciting to see how he does with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and ultimately with the Brewers when he's called up. It will be exciting to see what Ray can do for the Biloxi Shuckers in the Southern League South Division Championship Series and if he can help deliver the organization its first SL title since becoming the Shuckers in 2015.

Most Outstanding Pitcher - Zack Brown, RHP, Biloxi Shuckers

RHP Zack Brown joins Ray as a first-year Southern League player. Brown currently leads the league with a 3.51 team ERA. With Brown on the mound, the Biloxi Shuckers have gone 19-2 as a club and in 20 starts, Brown is 18-2 making him a valuable part of what could be a Shuckers sweep of the season (first and second half).

Brown is 9-1 on the season. He is second in the Southern League with a 1.05 WHIP. When Brown is on the mound his opponents have a .208 batting average allowing only 10.04 baserunners per nine innings pitched.

On June 15th, Brown got the ball and tossed a complete game one-hit shutout to help Biloxi clinch their spot in the playoffs with the victory of the first-half South Division title. With that game under his belt, it will be exciting to see how he performs in the Southern League South Division Championship Series alongside Ray.

Manager of the Year - Mike Guerrero, Biloxi Shuckers

The Southern League Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Pitcher, and a roster full of players who have helped Biloxi clinch a playoff spot. On top of that, the Biloxi Shuckers are in position to sweep both halves of the Southern League's season. Since joining the Shuckers in 2016, Mike Guerrero has led them to a 221-190 record.

2018 Southern League All-Star Team

The Southern League also announced the 2018 Postseason All-Star team, as selected by field managers and club personnel. The Shuckers, Chattanooga Lookouts, and Jackson Generals lead the way with three players each.
  • Catcher - Zack Collins - Birmingham Barons - Leads all qualified hitters with a .384 OBP

Supercross: Chad Reed Tallies First Podium Finish Since 2017

It wasn't a victory for Chad Reed in Detroit but it was a podium finish for the driver from Kurri Kurri, Australia. His first podium since Glendale in 2017 and the 132nd career podium finish. The finish is just another page in the story for Reed and 2019 has been one hell of a story so far. Reed has already earned more top 10 finishes this season then he did last season. The first top-five finish Reed earned this year already was more than he netted in 2018. Before San Diego, Reed had not finished inside the top five since Toronto in 2017. Will Christien denoted to Reed during the post-race interview that he had not been a fan of the new "Triple Crown" format but will take a third place finish. "Honestly just starts and finally riding to your ability," Reed told NBCSN. "It's been a long time. For the guy who has stood up here more than anyone in the sport, you know I take it on personally as just feeling less about myself for not getting up here and

MiLB: Mobile BayBears Look for Walk-Off in Final Season in Mobile

On Thursday (April 4th), the Mobile BayBears kick off their final season in Mobile, Alabama. The team will relocate to Madison, Alabama after this season and the BayBears are looking to finish in walk-off style. The BayBears have an opportunity in 2019 to tie the Montgomery Biscuits with four Southern League titles. The organization is currently fourth on the all-time SLCS victories. One last season at Hank Aaron Stadium, is this the year they walk-off with their fifth Southern League championship? In 2018, the Mobile BayBears were hiding in the bushes during the 2018 Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch but the organization was eliminated from playoff contention rather early in the campaign. The organization finished 66-70, fourth in the South Division. The BayBears were second in runs scored per game and runs batted in during the 2018 season but the rest of the batting statistics were pretty low. Things just didn't add up for the organization and in 2019 they
