MiLB: The Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch (August 21st, 2018)

Tuesday night wasn't a good night for the leaders of the North Division and saw the Biloxi Shuckers and Pensacola Blue Wahoos add an extra level of intensity for the final two games of their series. With that being said, no teams clinched their playoff spots and time is ticking for teams to make it happen.

North Division Playoff Picture

For the second straight night, the Chattanooga Lookouts made a statement that they won't be put down easily. The Lookouts defeated the division-leading Montgomery Biscuits easing the sting on the losses by Tennessee and Birmingham.

Jackson defeated Tennessee putting them back in the second-half championship discussion after the team already punched their playoff ticket in the first half. Birmingham lost to Jacksonville pushing Montgomery's magic number down to eight.

North Division Standings - Games Behind - Elimination Number

  1. Montgomery Biscuits - 0 GB
  2. Tennessee Smokies - 4 GB - 8
  3. Birmingham Barons - 5 GB - 8
  4. * Jackson Generals - 5 GB - 8
  5. Chattanooga Lookouts - 9 GB - 3

South Division Playoff Picture

If it would just stop raining in Mobile, this picture could be a little clearer.

The Mississippi/Mobile Game one of four got fired up but when rain interfered in the fifth inning, it was pushed to Wednesday. The seven-inning game between the two will be resumed at 5:05 p.m. CT with Mobile leading 4-3 while the originally scheduled contest will become a seven-inning game after the first one. They will play a doubleheader on Thursday to end the series.

Boxing gloves will be off for these final two games between the Biloxi Shuckers and Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Biloxi has a 0.5 game deficit to make up with Pensacola in the lead. Biloxi, of course, won the first half meaning this only decides if Pensacola will have to worry about third place or not.

As noted above Jacksonville defeated Birmingham keeping them alive with a four-game cushion from elimination.

South Division Standings - Games Behind - Elimination Number

  1. Pensacola Blue Wahoos - 0 GB
  2. * Biloxi Shuckers - 0.5 GB - 12
  3. Mississippi Braves - 2.0 GB - 13
  4. Mobile Bay Bears - 7.5 GB - 7
  5. Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp - 9.5 GB - 4

Supercross: Chad Reed Tallies First Podium Finish Since 2017

It wasn't a victory for Chad Reed in Detroit but it was a podium finish for the driver from Kurri Kurri, Australia. His first podium since Glendale in 2017 and the 132nd career podium finish. The finish is just another page in the story for Reed and 2019 has been one hell of a story so far. Reed has already earned more top 10 finishes this season then he did last season. The first top-five finish Reed earned this year already was more than he netted in 2018. Before San Diego, Reed had not finished inside the top five since Toronto in 2017. Will Christien denoted to Reed during the post-race interview that he had not been a fan of the new "Triple Crown" format but will take a third place finish. "Honestly just starts and finally riding to your ability," Reed told NBCSN. "It's been a long time. For the guy who has stood up here more than anyone in the sport, you know I take it on personally as just feeling less about myself for not getting up here and

MiLB: Mobile BayBears Look for Walk-Off in Final Season in Mobile

On Thursday (April 4th), the Mobile BayBears kick off their final season in Mobile, Alabama. The team will relocate to Madison, Alabama after this season and the BayBears are looking to finish in walk-off style. The BayBears have an opportunity in 2019 to tie the Montgomery Biscuits with four Southern League titles. The organization is currently fourth on the all-time SLCS victories. One last season at Hank Aaron Stadium, is this the year they walk-off with their fifth Southern League championship? In 2018, the Mobile BayBears were hiding in the bushes during the 2018 Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch but the organization was eliminated from playoff contention rather early in the campaign. The organization finished 66-70, fourth in the South Division. The BayBears were second in runs scored per game and runs batted in during the 2018 season but the rest of the batting statistics were pretty low. Things just didn't add up for the organization and in 2019 they
