MiLB: The Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch (August 22nd, 2018)

Wednesday night was a good night for some teams and a bad night for others. The Biloxi Shuckers put up their fifth straight victory putting the Shuckers on top in the South Division. While in the North, Montgomery is one game away from making the Chattanooga Lookouts the first team to be eliminated from the playoff picture. Intensity is picking up and the level of importance of games is heightening.

North Division Playoff Picture

As noted above, Montgomery snapped Chattanooga's streak at two games defeating the Lookouts 3-2 setting up a series-deciding game on Thursday Night. On top of that, Montgomery has three teams behind them who could make a run including the Tennessee Smokies who play the Biscuits starting Friday.

The Smokies dropped Thursday's game to the Jackson Generals resulting in the two being tied going into the series-deciding game five.  As noted Tennessee travels to Montgomery on Friday while Jackson travels to Birmingham.

Birmingham and Jacksonville ended Thursday's game tied at 0-0 in the sixth which means the two will battle in a doubleheader on Thursday. Jacksonville travels to Chattanooga on Friday to begin their five-game series.

Montgomery's magic number to clinch the second half championship is now seven.

The rain finally didn't interfere in Mobile and Mississippi's games. The two games were split between the two with Mobile taking the victory in game one 6-4 while Mississippi defeated Mobile 7-2 in the second game. The series ends with a final doubleheader between the two as Mobile then travels to Pensacola.

Speaking of Pensacola, the organization lost the series to Biloxi last night and tonight they lost the lead in the south division with a 6-3 loss to the Shuckers.

Jacksonville and Birmingham's game was postponed to Thursday setting up a doubleheader. As noted above, Jacksonville travels to Chattanooga in the battle of the last place teams.

Pensacola, Mississippi, and Mobile all three still can punch their ticket to the playoffs if the Shuckers clinch the second half. Biloxi already clinched the first half meaning if they clinch the second half, whoever finishes second in the standings will face Biloxi in the playoffs. Biloxi's magic number to clinch is 11.

Supercross: Chad Reed Tallies First Podium Finish Since 2017

It wasn't a victory for Chad Reed in Detroit but it was a podium finish for the driver from Kurri Kurri, Australia. His first podium since Glendale in 2017 and the 132nd career podium finish. The finish is just another page in the story for Reed and 2019 has been one hell of a story so far. Reed has already earned more top 10 finishes this season then he did last season. The first top-five finish Reed earned this year already was more than he netted in 2018. Before San Diego, Reed had not finished inside the top five since Toronto in 2017. Will Christien denoted to Reed during the post-race interview that he had not been a fan of the new "Triple Crown" format but will take a third place finish. "Honestly just starts and finally riding to your ability," Reed told NBCSN. "It's been a long time. For the guy who has stood up here more than anyone in the sport, you know I take it on personally as just feeling less about myself for not getting up here and

MiLB: Mobile BayBears Look for Walk-Off in Final Season in Mobile

On Thursday (April 4th), the Mobile BayBears kick off their final season in Mobile, Alabama. The team will relocate to Madison, Alabama after this season and the BayBears are looking to finish in walk-off style. The BayBears have an opportunity in 2019 to tie the Montgomery Biscuits with four Southern League titles. The organization is currently fourth on the all-time SLCS victories. One last season at Hank Aaron Stadium, is this the year they walk-off with their fifth Southern League championship? In 2018, the Mobile BayBears were hiding in the bushes during the 2018 Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch but the organization was eliminated from playoff contention rather early in the campaign. The organization finished 66-70, fourth in the South Division. The BayBears were second in runs scored per game and runs batted in during the 2018 season but the rest of the batting statistics were pretty low. Things just didn't add up for the organization and in 2019 they
