MiLB: 2018 Southern League North Division Championship Series Preview

The Montgomery Biscuits return to the playoffs for the fourth straight season. The Biscuits play the Jackson Generals, the same team they faced in the 2016 Southern League North Division Championship Series in which the Generals went on to win the title. The Biscuits clinched their spot in the playoffs via the North Division Second-Half Championship in which the organization posted a strong run in the second half with a record of 42-28.

In 2018, Montgomery has the fifth-most home runs in the league and leads the division in runs (699), triples (45), RBI's (655), and stolen bases (159). Nick Solak will lead the Biscuits into this playoff with the best batting average (.282), runs (91), home runs (19), and RBI's (76). Solak will be an important part if the Montgomery Biscuits want to make history by winning the North Division.

J.D Martin takes the mound for game one, Brock Burke takes the mound for game two, and Benton Moss will take the mound in game three. J.D Martin will be chasing his 100th career victory in the Minor Leagues on Wednesday. Games four and five starters will be revealed if needed.

The Jackson Generals return to the playoffs for the first time since their 2016 Southern League Championship victory. The General clinched their spot via the North Division First-Half Championship when the organization pulled a strong 39-30 in the first half. The organization almost clinched the second half finishing second to the Biscuits by 6 games.

In 2018, Jackson has the ninth most home runs of the league and leads the division in hits (1,233), doubles (240), and batting average (.262). Kevin Medrano, Rudy Flores, and Ben DeLuzio have led the Jackson Generals this season in the batting column. Medrano leads the team with the best batting average of .331. Rudy Flores leads the team with 17 home runs and 75 RBI's. Ben DeLuzio has the most stolen bases of the season at 34.

Taylor Widener takes the mound in game one, Jon Duplantier in game two, and the starter for the third game is listed as TBA. Games four and five starters will be revealed if needed.

The Southern League North Division Championship Series kicks off on Wednesday (September 5th) from The Ballpark in Jackson at 7:05 p.m. ET. Game two will also be in Jackson, Tennessee while Game three will be on Friday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama. IF necessary, games four and five will take place at Montgomery on Saturday and Sunday (September 8th & 9th).

The Birmingham Barons ended a two-year long streak of finishing last in the North Division this season. Despite not contending for the championship, 2018 was still a strong season filled with positives for the Barons to take into the 2019 season. MiLB: The Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch (August 31st, 2018)

Friday's action in the southern league was highlighted by teams snapping winless streaks, teams extending their lead, and a little modification to the South Division. With many teams just facing three days left of action, the intensity will hit an all-time high if it hasn't already. These final games are must wins in order to gain everything possible before the clock strikes zero on the 2018 regular season.  North Division Playoff Picture The Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Jackson Generals 4-1 in Jackson marking the first victory for the Lookouts since Monday night against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
