MiLB: The Jackson Generals Win the Southern League Championship with 3-2 Victory Over Biloxi

The Generals defeated the Biloxi Shuckers 3-2 on Saturday Night en-route to their third Southern League Championship in team history. The Generals went 3-1 in the Southern League Championship Series to pick up the series victory against the Biloxi Shuckers. The Generals defeated the Montgomery Biscuits in the Southern League North Division Championship Series for a spot in the SLCS for the first time since their 2016 Championship victory.

Much like Friday nights game, Jackson packed on some runs early. Kevin Medrano kept up his very strong postseason performance with a two-run home run in the first inning, his fifth of 2018 and 13th of his minor league career. That home-run put Jackson up two runs but the Biloxi Shuckers weren't going down that easy.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Tony Stokes Jr. knocked a home-run over the left-center field wall making it 2-1. Stokes would cross home plate again in the sixth inning after Keston Hiura singled a ground ball to center field making it 2-2 as the two entered the seventh inning stretch.

Both the Generals and Shuckers pitchers and defense would keep the opposing team on their toes but it wasn't until the ninth inning where the Generals would put the icing on the cake. Marty Herum scored on a double to right field. Kevin Ginkel would begin shutting the door on the Biloxi Shuckers and with two outs, Weston Wilson hit a ground ball to third baseman Herum who would then toss it to first baseman Rudy Flores to seal the deal on a Generals Southern League Championship victory.
