MiLB: The Walk-Off Sports Report Southern League Playoff Watch (September 3rd, 2018)

The 2018 Southern League Regular Season has come to a close. On an event filled Monday Afternoon, two teams learned their fate for the 2018 Southern League Playoffs. While other teams were looking to end the season with one final win. Monday was a bittersweet day for six teams as their season came to a close. Here is the final 2018 edition of the Southern League Playoff Watch.

North Division Playoff Picture

As the regular season came to a close, The Tennessee Smokies made the day that could've been something of a big deal for the Blue Wahoos. The Smokies defeated the Blue Wahoos 3-0 ultimately giving the Biloxi Shuckers the second-half championship. 

The Chattanooga Lookouts ended the season with a victory against the Jackson Generals 4-2 but weren't able to pull out of the last place spot earning their first last-place finish since 2013. 

The Birmingham Barons also earned the victory and was able to keep their head above water earning their best finish in the points since 2015. The Mobile BayBears were able to defeat the Montgomery Biscuits putting both of the North Division Championship Contenders in a hole heading into Wednesday's contest. 

Final North Division Standings - Games Behind (Overall 2018)

The Montgomery Biscuits will face the Jackson Generals starting on Wednesday in Jackson Tennessee. The Biscuits secured their sixth Half-Division Championship while the Generals clinched their fifth. 

The Chattanooga Lookouts finish last in the series for the first time since 2013 while the Birmingham Barons pick up their best finish in the standings since 2015.

  2. * Jackson Generals - 3.5 GB - FIRST HALF DIVISION WINNER
  3. Birmingham Barons  - 11 GB

North Division Wild Card Standings (FINAL)

The Montgomery Biscuits ended the regular season with the best overall record of 2018 in the North Division with a 79-61 win/loss record. Montgomery also landed the best record in the second half with a 42-28 win/loss record. The Montgomery Biscuits will play the Jackson Generals in the 2018 SLNDCS Championship Series.

  3. Birmingham Barons: (66 - 72)

South Division Playoff Picture

The second-half championship was decided this morning when the Tennesse Smokies defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Had the Wahoos won and the result of the Biloxi game stayed the same, Pensacola would've clinched the second half but that wasn't what happened. Biloxi still lost but was able to celebrate the clinching the second half. 

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp lost their final game of the season against the Mississippi Braves, a team who might have made the playoffs had the last few series not gone the way it went.

College Football: Chattanooga Remains Undefeated with Victory Against Samford

The Chattanooga Mocs are off to a hot start following their victory against the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday Night. The Mocs kept the Samford offense from breaking through to the end zone during the first quarter and scored often throughout the remainder of the game earn a 4-0 record. Bryce Nunnelly started off the scoring for the Mocs with a 55-yard pass from Nick Tiano who would break through and put the Mocs on the board 6-0. A successful P.A.T put the Mocs up 7-0 early. MiLB: Birmingham Barons Lead Attendance Numbers in First Half

Per the Southern League attendance numbers, the Birmingham Barons had the highest attendance of the Southern League first half. The Barons had an attendance total of 200,196 during the first half of the season while the South Division Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp came in second with 165,895. The Barons finished the first half in fifth in the North Division while Jacksonville finished fourth in the South Division. The Mobile BayBears, who will be relocating to Madison, Alabama at the end of the season had the lowest attendance in the Southern League. Mobile had an attendance total of 35,102 averaging out to 1,300. The Jackson Generals, who are the defending Southern League Champions, held the second worst attendance at 55,713 (1,741 average). The Pensacola Blue Wahoos (148,060), Tennessee Smokies (118,713), and the North Division First Half Champion Montgomery Biscuits (116,902) rounded out the top five attendance totals in the first half.
