MiLB: Jackson Generals Secures Second Championship Series Visit in Three Years

The Jackson Generals dominated the Montgomery Biscuits in Game Five of the Southern League North Division Championship Series on Sunday Night. The victory puts the Jackson Generals in the playoffs for the second time in three years and marks the teams' fourth championship appearance since 2000. The Generals, who were previously the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, have won the Southern League Championship twice since 2000 most recently in 2016.

The Generals road to dominance in Game Five began in the first inning with Kevin Medrano scoring on a triple by Domingo Leyba. Three more runs came in the second inning, two in the third, and five in the seventh putting a total of 11 runs in the victory against Montgomery.

Montgomery attempted a comeback in the second inning when David Rodriguez hit a two-run home run knocking off two on the deficit. Dalton Kelly scored in the sixth to knock off another run. Rodriguez hit another home run in the seventh to knock off another run making it 11-4. Thomas Milone then scored on a single by Lucius Fox. Fox advanced to second after a fielding error by Jackson's left fielder Evan Marzilli. Fox would score after a single by Nick Solak,

As time was ticking very quickly for the Biscuits, Nick Solak reached first on a throwing error by Jackson's shortstop Galli Cribbs scoring Dalton Kelly and knocking off another run of their deficit. That wouldn't be enough as the Generals would catch a pop fly by Sullivan ending the game 11-7.

The Jackson Generals will battle the Biloxi Shuckers in the Southern League Championship Series beginning on Tuesday (September 11th) in Jackson, Tennessee. The two have never faced each other in the Championship Series but in the regular season Biloxi/Jackson, Jackson has four wins and five losses. (Koelle,2018)

The Chattanooga Mocs are off to a hot start following their victory against the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday Night. The Mocs kept the Samford offense from breaking through to the end zone during the first quarter and scored often throughout the remainder of the game earn a 4-0 record. Bryce Nunnelly started off the scoring for the Mocs with a 55-yard pass from Nick Tiano who would break through and put the Mocs on the board 6-0. A successful P.A.T put the Mocs up 7-0 early. MiLB: Birmingham Barons Lead Attendance Numbers in First Half

Per the Southern League attendance numbers, the Birmingham Barons had the highest attendance of the Southern League first half. The Barons had an attendance total of 200,196 during the first half of the season while the South Division Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp came in second with 165,895. The Barons finished the first half in fifth in the North Division while Jacksonville finished fourth in the South Division. The Mobile BayBears, who will be relocating to Madison, Alabama at the end of the season had the lowest attendance in the Southern League. Mobile had an attendance total of 35,102 averaging out to 1,300. The Jackson Generals, who are the defending Southern League Champions, held the second worst attendance at 55,713 (1,741 average). The Pensacola Blue Wahoos (148,060), Tennessee Smokies (118,713), and the North Division First Half Champion Montgomery Biscuits (116,902) rounded out the top five attendance totals in the first half.
