MiLB: Biloxi Shuckers Hand Jackson Generals First Shutout Loss Since August in Game 1 of Southern League Championship Series

The Southern League Championship Series kicked off on Tuesday Night in Jackson, Tennessee. The Biloxi Shuckers, who had an extra day off, traveled to Jackson to face off against the Jackson Generals. The Generals had clinched their championship spot a day after the Shuckers in a dominant performance in Game 5 of the North Division Championship Series.

Biloxi's offense scored early and often while their defense kept the Generals from mounting any runs in the nine-inning shutout. Biloxi scored seven times during the game to earn the first of three necessary victories in the series.

Southern League MVP Corey Ray was the first player to cross the plate after a double by Troy Stokes Jr. On a passed ball, Stokes scored putting the Shuckers up 2-0 in the first inning. Jackson posted some strong defense until the sixth inning when Biloxi added on three more runs. One more run was added in the eighth and then in the ninth, Dillon Thomas knocked his first home run of 2018 and 25th of his career to put the Shuckers out of reach.

It's the first shutout victory for the Biloxi Shuckers since September 1st, 2018 (4-0 against Birmingham) while the Jackson Generals received their first shutout loss since August 26th, 2018 (2-0 against Birmingham).

Game 2 of the Southern League Championship Series takes place in Jackson, Tennessee. It'll be the last chance for the Generals to deliver a victory in front of their hometown crowd in 2018 as the remainder of the games will take place in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Zack Brown, who is 9-1, takes the mound for the Jackson Generals. It'll be the first 2018 Championship Series appearance for the 2018 Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher. Brown pitched six innings in the 4-3 victory against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the South Division Championship Series.

Jon Duplantier, who is 5-1, takes the mound for the Jackson Generals. Duplantier was handed his first loss of 2018 during the September 6th loss to the Montgomery Biscuits in the North Division Championship Series.
