MiLB: Jackson Generals Defend Lead in Late Innings to Move Within One Win of Championship

The Jackson Generals are within reach of their second Southern League Championship in four years after their victory in Game 3 Friday Night. The Generals packed on a pretty sizeable lead and then successfully defended that lead from a late-game charge by the Shuckers. Here is how the cookie crumbled in Biloxi, Mississippi.

A single by Kevin Medrano scored Galli Cribbs putting the Generals up 1-0 in the third. Following that, Jackson would pack on eight more runs over the span of four innings. A little breath of air would come out of the Shuckers as Max McDowell hit a double scoring Blake Allemand and Weston Wilson knocking off two runs of, at the time, an eight-run lead by the Generals.

Jackson pulled a little more life out of the Shuckers in the eighth putting on four more runs making it 12-2. A distance in which Jackson felt was an insurance lead but Biloxi was out to prove them wrong and knock them down run-by-run.

Wilson knocked a double to score Keston Hiura knocking one off and then Max McDowell hit a home run to put Biloxi within seven of tying the Generals. That seven number would be all they would be able to tally during the nine innings as the Shuckers picked up their second loss of the series.

Should the Jackson Generals win Saturday's nine-inning game, the Generals will become the 2018 Southern League Champions. If the Biloxi Shuckers can pull off the victory, a winner-take-all game five will take place on Sunday at MGM Stadium.

Emilio Vargas (1-3 on the season) will take the mound for the Jackson Generals while Trey Supak (6-6 on the season) will take the mound for the Biloxi Shuckers. (Koelle,2018)

The Mocs would tack on two more touchdowns (and extra points) before the Samford Bulldogs were able to tack on their first points of the night. Samford's DeMarcus Ware pushed through the defense to give Samford their first touchdown of the evening but they would still trail the Mocs 17-10 heading into halftime. The Mocs defense was strong in the third quarter holding Samford to a lone field goal with 08:42 remaining in the third.
