MiLB: Biloxi Shuckers Clinch South Division Championship

The Biloxi Shuckers clinched the South Division Championship on Saturday Night at their hometown field, MGM Stadium. The Shuckers defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to ultimately eliminate the Wahoos and send the organization to the SLCS for only the second time in Shucker history.

The Shuckers defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 9-1 to secure their second South Division Championship and it will be their second appearance since becoming the Shuckers in 2015. The Shuckers kicked off Saturday Night with a home run by Keston Hirura which put them on the board and the Shuckers fans on edge for what they were about to see, a complete domination by the Shuckers.

The only offensive play by the Blue Wahoos as they were in hot pursuit for a fifth game was a home run by Gavin LaValley which kept the Wahoos from earning their first shutout victory since the final regular season game of the season against Tennessee.

Biloxi continued to put on insurance runs as the game progressed basically putting it out of reach for the Blue Wahoos. The Wahoos will not defend their 2017 Southern League Championship (co-champion with Chattanooga).

The Biloxi Shuckers will face the winner of the Montgomery/Jackson North Division Championship Series. Games one and two will be in Montgomery, AL or Jackson, TN while game three will be in Biloxi, Mississippi. If necessary games four and five will also be in Biloxi, Mississippi. Per MiLB.com, the Southern League Championship Series kicks off on September 11th, 2018. (Koelle,2018)
